PU Leather · Construction-Led Development

PU Leather & Microfiber PU for Footwear, Bags and Upholstery

ROYI develops PU synthetic leather on woven, knitted and microfiber bases, including dry-transfer constructions and project-specific microfiber PU laminated to bovine split leather.

Surface, hand feel, thickness, backing, flex, hydrolysis, peel and abrasion targets are matched to the finished product—not selected from appearance alone.

Direct answer

PU performance starts below the surface.

PU leather is a layered material system. The visible PU surface controls grain, color, gloss and touch, while the backing and bonding route influence body, flexibility and dimensional stability.

Material constructions

Choose the backing before choosing the finish.

Three PU routes can look similar from the front while behaving very differently after cutting, stitching, forming and repeated use.

Textile base

Fabric-backed PU

Woven, knitted or nonwoven bases support projects that need controlled softness, stretch, drape, thickness or cost.

Typical direction Lightweight bags, fashion accessories, garments and selected shoe components.
Synthetic microfiber

Microfiber PU

A dense three-dimensional microfiber structure supports refined hand, stronger body and a surface direction closer to natural leather.

Typical direction Shoe uppers, premium bags, gloves, sports goods, upholstery and interiors.
Animal-containing hybrid

Microfiber + bovine split leather

PU microfiber can be laminated to a bovine split-leather backing when a project specifically requests the combined structure.

Important Not fully synthetic or vegan. Labeling, adhesion and finished-product testing must be confirmed.

Dry-transfer route

The surface and backing are prepared for different jobs.

The PU surface is first formed on release paper. An adhesive layer is prepared, then the surface is laminated to the selected textile, microfiber or split-leather-based substrate.

  1. 01Select release paper
  2. 02Coat and dry PU surface
  3. 03Prepare adhesive layer
  4. 04Laminate selected backing
  5. 05Cure, release and inspect

Dry lamination describes the bonding route. It does not automatically mean solvent-free.

Application range

What can PU leather be made into?

The useful question is not only “where can PU be used?” It is “which construction and test target fit this part of the finished product?”
